It really seems like Mother Nature has a good grasp on the region this year with no letting up in sight. This may bode well for ice fishermen if the frigid weather keeps up. We do have some exciting events coming up this week and the next. Starting off, Striper Day will take place this Sunday at Ward Melville High School, where there will be an array of vendors and seminars to listen to. Then, the New York Boat Show will take place from the 22nd through the 26th. Also, on the 26th, there will be a flea market in Babylon. The Fisherman will be present at all of these events, giving out a free pair of pliers when you sign up for a 1-year subscription to the magazine! In sad news, we unfortunately report that longtime lure maker and fishing legend Ralph Votta passed away last week. Icy temperatures and high winds have made fishing a tough venture during the past week. Connetquot remained open for trout fishing but that was about it for fishable areas. The one this to embrace is the potential for some ice fishing once the lakes are safe enough and the wind drops out a bit more. Keep in mind that if you can find open tidal waters, white perch are another great option this time of the year and in this week's video we go over some tips for targeting them.
