Summer 2024 was so fun - intense and stressful at times, but overall amazing - and yet, I couldn’t find it in me to open my sketchbook and draw. In the midst of all the fun and chaos last summer, with all these moments and sights and countless experiences, I somehow lost my desire and motivation to create. Opening my sketchbook to do something became a chore, rather than the exciting hobby that it used to be for me. I was so frustrated because all this inspiration was around me! I caught myself thinking, “if me from a year ago saw this or experienced that or caught a picture of this, she would 1000% rush home and draw it”! I had to take a step back and ask myself hard questions, like why do I even do art? What do I want to do? Why am I comparing myself to others? Why do I feel like I’m in a race against time (and time is running out‼️)?! If no one saw my sketchbook, if I had no YouTube channel, if there was no “imposter syndrome”, what would I even want to do? I still don’t have answers for these questions and typing them out/thinking about them makes my heart race🫀⚡️, but I’m finding my way back to art, fighting back against “expectations” that my silly lil brain makes up, and trying to bring back the old feeling of "fun ambition". It doesn’t have to be 100% for me, it could be for a sponsored video (like this illustration here), it could be a gift, or a print/sticker idea for my shop, but I can still turn it into something I actually enjoy and feel excited creating!
