THE MOMENTUM FILES channel features iconic sections, unreleased edits, behind the scenes interviews and un-released footage from Steele's more than 30 movies. Well, the infamous "Code Red" swell was very serious. This is where the journey started...virtually disastrous, and would descend into chaos and delirium from there. But through it all, there were moments of brilliance, like this unmade wave of Dave Rastovich's...and the fact that he and Craig Anderson paddled out (with no boat) at all. Stephanie called Dave the Tom Curren of Australia, a title few would be able to live up to, but somehow it fits the free-spirited Rastovich. Gilmore is easily one of the world's top female surfers, dominating the world tour during her professional career with six titles at the age of 28. Hard to tell. Big wave aficionado Joel Fitzgerald was keen to find out, charging into bombs on his self-made singlefins with vintage style. Roach, a longboarder and all-around waterman from Noosa Heads, was pushing his own comfort limits in the waves, but charged hard to keep pace with Fitzgerald. There were a lot of poundings, hard-paddles, and a nearly-drowned water-filmer, but the adventure made for a great section of Se7en Signs, which was kinda the point. Filmmakers and surfers around the world acting in unison. Then, when it came time to edit and score the film, we took a pretty similar approach...smashing it all into a small window of time and doing it all DIY. Fortunately, we had a music studio on hand and the help of musical maestro Mikey Bee, who currently records under the name MT WARNING (check his albums out, if you haven't -- so good). Then we were joined by surfer musicians like Dave Rastovich, Ozzy Wright, Angus Stone, and Kelly Slater to help pull it together. In the end, it was a pretty epic soundtrack for a pretty epic experience. Here are a few stories from behind the scenes of cutting the tunes, shared by Mikey and director Nathan Myers.
