(end of sermon) <video> Why you should not buy a microwave kiln! Description: Microwave kiln review, and why in my opinion you should not buy one! I use this for firing metal clay, I have been firing using a torch but was finding that method to be somewhat unreliable, the results inconsistent. This microwave kiln certainly worked and gave me a lot more consistency in firing my copper clay items. So why do I not reccomend you buy this? Well, you will have to watch the video and I will tell you! Enjoy! </video> <video> Dremel Stone Carving Owl Pendant. Description: This Owl mask pendant is made form Welsh Slate, probably the best stone for beginners to use when learning stone carving with a Dremel type tool.The design did not work out quite as I had visualized it but it did turn out OK and turned out to be a quite striking stylized Owl! It took me about three hours to make and so I can only show a short snippet of each stage of the crafting process but if you would like to see the whole process in future videos please let me know and I will try the speeded-up route. Description: Drilling polished stones, Agate and Jasper, for jewellery mounting with a Dremel or Parkside rotary tool takes such a long time that it can be really off-putting. This is the only useful method of drilling hard stones. I have been drilling my Agate and Jasper polished tumble stones to make pendants using a Dremel with diamond tipped drills for the past couple of years. However it does take a fair bit of time to drill each stone, even just making a tiny hole just 4-5 mm deep can take 20-30 minutes! This makes drilling these stones a real chore and to be honest I have tried several ways to avoid the drilling, none of which worked very well. With a bit of advice from my pal Ed I have now cracked the problem. Using diamond drills in a water fed pillar drill makes the job easy. But there is a couple of tricks needed! </video> <video> DREMEL CARVING CARNELIAN AGATE BEACH STONES Description: My missus picked up a lovely piece of Carnelian Agate on our local beach, probably too thin to rock tumble but maybe a good candidate for rock carving? I decided to make a small piece of jewellery as a gift for Marie for Christmas. I have been trying to carve the Agate pebbles for almost two years with little success, the stone is just too hard! I had to improvise somewhat on the tools but this time I think I cracked it! I used the dremel attachment on my Ferrex mini bench grinder with diamond burrs, but the real star was the small Angle-grinder I used as a carving tool! I have tried to show each stage and the tools I used. Enjoy! </video> <video> PARKSIDE CORDLESS SABRE SAW - TESTED AND REVIEW - How long will it cut for on a single battery? Welldesigned and compact but how long will it cut for on a single battery? </video> <video> ONYX, WOLF HEAD PENDANT Description: Another beautiful piece of stone rescued from landfill! I carved this entirely using a mini bench grinder with flexible dremel type attachment, diamond burrs and paper carbide polishing discs. These tools are available to anyone so why not have a go yourself? Each time a make a stone carved wolfs head pendant it seems to come out completely different. I suppose this is because I do not have any great plan and make these pretty much by the seat of my pants! I have rescued dozens of different marble and stone pieces for carving and I hope to show a few more different types of stone and different designs in the future. However I don't really plan these videos, I simply make what I fancy doing at the time. </video> <video> Tumbling Rocks with Plastic Beads Description: If you have not tried tumbling your rocks using plastic beads or poly pellets, perhaps now is the time to try them! They are a great boon to learner rock tumblers and if you are a more experienced at polishing rocks you might be pleasantly surprised at the advantages that that can be gained from adding poly pellets to your mix! </video> <video> THE BEST WAY TO BURN PALLET WOOD! Description: If like me you burn pallet wood on your log burning stove you will already know that this free timber burns too fast to be a proper substitute for "tree logs". However that need not be the case! Using this little hack you can quickly and easily turn your pallet wood into useful and free logs. </video> <video> Just a Dremel, Stone Carving - Wolf Pendant. You can do this! Description: I wanted to carve a Wolfs head pendant using only Dremel type tools, no large saw or routers. The stone is Welsh slate which is a beautiful stone to carve, soft enough to carve easily but hard enough to take a sharp edge and strong enough to be able to make smaller intricate pieces. We have used this super little battery charger for over a year. It takes eight rechargeable AA or AAA batteries and will not only charge them but stores them in a state of full charge until needed. It has a warning light to warn of malfunctioning batteries which is a great feature making it fairly easy to identify the offending unit. </video> <video> THE BIG ROCK TUMBLE POLISH CHALLENGE! Which is the best polish to use in your rock tumbler? Description: I wanted to know which rock tumbler polish was the best one? Every rock tumbler has his or her favourite, but which polish really is the best? The only way to know for sure was to set up a subjective test comparing the four most popular rock tumbling polishes. To achieve this I tumbled four barrels of stones in exactly the same way, side by side, mixing all four barrels of stones at each stage so that they all reached the polishing stage with exactly the same level of tumbling. Then commenced the polishing test. The results were astonishing, the difference between the polishes was quite remarkable. I now know which is the quickest and best polish for tumbling! </video> <video> Stone Carving an Onyx Marble Pendant. Description: Onyx marble is simply a type of Limestone, this beautiful piece was destined for landfill, so I re-purposed it, in this case as a pendant. Carved and polished mostly using a rotary Dremel type tool. If you would like to try something like this always use water as a lubricant, this reduces wear and tear on your diamond burrs and improves the cutting performance hugely! </video> <video> PARKSIDE WOOD TURNING LATHE - IS THIS GOOD FOR BEGINNERS? Description: User review of the Parkside wood lathe PDM600 B2, is this the best wood lathe for a beginner wood turner? How do you decide if you actually want to take up wood turning as a hobby or not? I found the first few hours of using the chisels to be a scary and daunting experience. (and I have been using power tools all my working life). You can try to join a club and hope someone will let you spend hours practicing on their lathe, or you can buy a cheap lathe to learn and practice on. Is the Parkside lathe from Lidl a good choice? I practiced on my lathe for several weeks and managed to make a few really nice things before reviewing the machine. I bought a set of carbide wood turning chisels from Amazon and this greatly aided my progress (Link below). Wood turning is a fascinating and absorbing hobby and I think it is well worth a bit of effort to learn if this is the hobby for you. </video> <video> WHY YOUR ROCKS WON'T POLISH - 4 main reasons for rock tumbler failure. Description: Are you failing to achieve a good polish in your rock tumbling? These are the four main reason why I think many novice beginners fail at rock tumbling. Spoiler alert, it's down to Borax and soap, choosing the wrong type of polishing powder, a failure at the first stage of tumbling and choosing the wrong stones to start with.
