Description: After spending a great night in Solitaire, we were finally en route to the much anticipated Sossusvlei - one of the most popular tourist attractions in Namibia. I still need to pinch myself every time I think about the privilege I have being able to fly over such a wonder of the world. Words cannot describe how beautiful and lucky we were to get to experience this. We stayed at the Sossusvlei Dune lodge which was located inside the National Park and therefore we were able to spend evenings and early mornings in the park without having to worry about gate closures. Anybody interested in aviation and has the opportunity, I can't recommend flying in this area enough. It is truly different and so so special. We entered the Messum crater to camp the night in pure solitude. 3 bush planes head north from Swakopmund to an ancient volcanic crater. After losing a drone in the side of a mountain it was our mission to recover it. We tried spotting it from an airplane and hiked on foot. In the scorching 35C heat, it wasn't an easy task. Bush flying in such an area is something to be cherished, I am so lucky that I am able to fly in one of the most remote, beautiful areas in the world! </video> <video> THE BEST BUSH PLANE FOR UNDER $100K? KFA EXPLORER | ZONSEN CA-500 Description: Following suit, I am reviewing the KFA Explorer. The Safari's little brother that fits into the LSA category of aircraft. An interesting feature to reduce the cost of this aircraft is to introduce the Zonsen CA500 engine which has been modded by KFA with their in house turbo kit making 135hp at an affordable price. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible power to weight ratio of this aircraft and it is also production built! Suitable to be used in flight schools and the like. Well done once again to KFA for producing a great product! </video> <video> THE NEW KFA SAFARI 916 IS A ROCKET SHIP Description: Power. The one word that perfectly describes the new KFA Safari powered by a Rotax 916 engine. With climb rates of 2000' per minute at 50kts. Incredible high density altitude performance. And a new wing designed that allows the aircraft to fly below 28kts and above 100kts in cruise. There is very little that I can fault about the new iteration of the Safari. A true utilitarian adventure machine. The only downside I see is the price of the engine and propellor combination. If I had the money, I'd upgrade to one of these tomorrow. Today, we are exploring the Sossusvlei dunes, one of the most iconic and breathtaking destinations in the country. The Sossusvlei dunes are part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, located in the southern part of Namibia. These towering sand dunes are among the tallest in the world, reaching heights of over 300 meters. The unique orange colour of the dunes is due to the high iron content in the sand, which reflects the sunlight in a spectacular way. We arrived at the park early in the morning, and unfortunately, we were greeted by heavy fog. However, despite the weather conditions, I decided to make the best of it and explore the dunes. I walked through the fog, feeling the dampness and the coolness of the air. As I walked through the dunes, I couldn't help but feel small and insignificant in comparison to the towering peaks around me. One of the highlights of my trip was climbing the highest dune in the park, known as "Big Daddy." The climb was challenging, but the fog provided an eerie and unique atmosphere. I couldn't see the views from the top, but it was an adventure I will always remember. After my climb, we headed back to camp for a well-deserved rest and some lunch. The rest was much needed after the hike and it helped me to recharge for the rest of the day. The next day, we flew to Altekalkoefen, our last stop on our way back to South Africa. It was an amazing experience to see the landscape from above and watch the dunes pass by. I couldn't help but think about how lucky I am to be able to see the world from such a unique perspective. It was however short lived as once again the fog had rolled in from the ocean causing us to land on a farm road and wait it out. Overall, the Sossusvlei dunes are a must-see destination for anyone visiting Namibia. The natural beauty, the adventure, and the sense of awe that you will experience will stay with you for a long time. Stuck in the old age, hosting all the old rusty cars. Perfectly positioned on the way to Sossusvlei, it is a popular stop for travellers by car and by air. Did I mention that they have the world's best apple pie?! I highly recommend anyone going past to stop in and take a look at the old relics. </video> <video> 500 MILES OVER THE NAMIBIAN DESERT Description: Today we leave the comfortable base of Swakopmund to venture in the more rural stop over point of Solitaire. A truly solitary place with less than 100 population in the town. However, they have an incredible Apple pie which makes up for the quietness. This must have been one of the most beautiful but terrifying flights whilst being in Namibia. Flying over hundreds of kilometres of desert is incredible but can be catastrophically dangerous. An ocean of sand with temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees celsius during the day and low single digits at night. All flying was done in my Rotax 915 powered KFA Safari taildragger bush plane. The perfect vehicle to tour such an impeccable destination. There is nothing quite like a birds eye view in Namibia. Upon approaching Uis, it was evident that we were now truly in the desert. Surrounded by sand dunes, high winds and high temperatures, we had arrived. Earlier that morning we had made provision on our route to visit one of the oldest volcanic calderas in the world, dating back to the splitting of the continents at Gondwana. The incredible sights of the Messum Crater is something so difficult to portray on film but hopefully this video encourages you to visit it. From the desolation, to the ability of plants being able to grow in such an environment, the sights were truly awe inspiring. After a brief stop in Messum, we were on our way to Swakopmund. An incredibly pretty town on the West Coast of Namibia. With huge amount of German and European influence, this destination is a major tourism hotspot. The area has many B&B's, hotels and activities for tourists. We managed to go on a tour through the dunes surrounding Swakopmund which was amazing! Highly recommended.
