The repetitive training of Chi Sao and the habits this develops, coupled with an increased sense of awareness and focus, achieves the 'flow state' of consciousness, where the mind doesn't interfere with the actions of the body. This frees the body to follow its own natural movement and habits in relationship to the sensory information gained through contact point with the opponent. This is the path to sparring without planning your moves (You can't think or plan in the fight, because the fighting happens at the speed of reflex action, not at the speed of conscious thought). Just knowing about this is not enough to make it happen. To develop the necessary reflex action takes large amounts of dedicated regular practise so your techniques become second nature and can be applied in the moments necessary for your success.
