Description: The 3rd weekend in August brings about an event that people countdown to year after year! The Carlton County Fair is now in its 133rd year. Since 1891, the fair has featured the area's best Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle, Dairy Goats, Market Goats, Rabbits, Poultry, Horses, tractors, vegetables, quilts, paintings, flowers, and photography. The fair featured a lot of family-friendly entertainment including a circus, giant bubbles, petting zoo, corn pit, bands, pedal pull, and mutton busting. The grandstand comes alive with the 132nd year of horse racing, a tractor pull, oval races, figure 8 races, and demolition derby. There's so much to see at this small-town County Fair. It's not as horrible as it sounds and goes pretty quickly with the barn cleaner chain out. The old Gehl Skid Steer works well for this job. Lastly, Alan has some concerns about the new to us Farmall 806 tractor and wants to work it a little bit to see if that helps. To do that, Alan hooks it up to the disc to disc up the corn field. There's not a lot we can do until it dries out, but Alan tries to keep busy. We recently got the Farmall 806 back from our local mechanic, so Alan is tinkering away at it. He plans on putting a tank heater on it, so to make it easier to access, he decides to take the loader off. That went well, so Alan decided to work on getting the door to shut and use it to get the feeder wagon. He installs an engine heater and hooks up the hoses for the cab heater. Alan also wants to see if working the 806 will help clear up some of the engine issues, so he hooks it up to the stalk chopper to work it a little bit. Alan gets some help from our family friend, Tim, to combine the corn for us. To do that, he fires up a 1440 International Harvester Combine. Description: The winter temps are jumping all over the place, so the bedding packs are thawing and need fresh bedding. Alan and Justin get to work using the chopped straw to bed the heifers and he even tries to use the manure spreader to put the chopped straw on the dairy cow's bedding pack. Next, we share our Christmas with you all. Joe and Martha, some very special viewers sent the kids presents. Even with Christmas, the chores must be done before Santa comes. Before we can do that, we have to make some preparations for the feed truck to bring some of the ingredients we will add to our feed mix. Alan and the boys relocate our poly feed tank down by the grain bins. Next, we move our creep feeder to get ready to put our dairy steer on full feed. Lastly, Alan shows his poor man's tmr mixer that he made using a chopper box and electric motor. The chopped stalks are great organic material for the soil. To chop the stalks he uses the International 1256 tractor to run an International 40 Stalk Chopper. He gets one field done but has to pause as he had a friend coming to help work on the barn cleaner. To get to the clog under the barn, he has to remove the piston plunger to get to the start of the underground manure pipe. Description: It's the start of Deer Season in Minnesota. Jen took Justin out on opening morning and he was able to snag a buck! After all the excitement, it's time to grind some feed for our dairy heifers. Alan hooks up the Arts Way 420 Grinder Mixer to our International 1066 tractor and starts to grind the cob corn that we picked a couple of weeks ago. He then adds Oats that we also grew here on the farm. Lastly, we add a protein pellet from our Feed Coop.
