After a short walk on the ice the two find a beautiful spot for a little campfire. Sheltered from the wind the fire is soon burning hot. Not much later some sausages from a local farm are roasting on sticks above the flames. Kato is exciting and the sun is warming our skin. And we take on a not so fun and super challenging new project... 😋 In other words a lot of chores have to be completed before winter will freeze the ground and hold the north in it's icy grip. At night the northern lights dance across the sky above our cabin. There is not much time left before the ground will be frozen solid and we have to hurry to harvest our potatoes. And also our carrots, tomatoes and everything. Has it been a good year for our little farm? Peter also started to rebuild the whole rear end of our RV! A project way above our heads.... And one morning we wake up to the first snow falling outside the window... Once more we take the Jeep overlanding to get to some remote and wild places in the Yukon Territory. It is the fall now. The weather is moody and the nights dark. We enjoy the warmth from our campfire before we retreat into the tent and cuddle into our sleeping bags. The weather is stormy and the mood is cozy... We probably have only one more camping trip before it gets too cold in the North. With our Jeep we crawl up an dried up river bed until we find the perfect spot in the heart of Kluane National Park. We enjoy the pure serenity of an evening with the whole family around the campfire. But eventually the cold drives us into our tent where we cuddle into ur sleeping bags, share some wine and enjoy the cozy vibes inside while outside dark stormy clouds form over the tent. The next morning is moody and rainy. But with a little fire we make it cozy, use our Jeep as a little shelter from the weather and enjoy our last adventure before the snow... Only a lonesome squirrel watches from a branch as Peter chops up a pile of firewood to battle the cold. Soon a big pile of perfect firewood has been split and it is time to start a fire in the wood stove that is used to heat up his cabin... Soon the sun sets with spectacular colours and darkness settles over his tiny cabin. The next morning is beautiful and Peter decides to use the good weather to cut up another load of firewood and stack it inside his wood shed. It is simple but beautiful life at the simple cabin in the Canadian Wilderness... It is a long day on the water before we find the perfect campsite. After pitching the tent, we have to bear-proof our campsite. And as the sun is setting we go exploring in the cliffs around our camp. The sun is low, the light is golden and we are spellbound by the beauty of this pristine wilderness. After some delays our baby boy enjoys his night in the tent and after jumping naked into the cold river's water we enjoy a quiet night around the campfire. Soon after settling down for the night we get a scary visit by a fearless bear in our camp... We head deep into bear country, and have to work hard to find our way. It's a perfect camping experience. Sleeping in our tent in a stunning landscape surrounded by towering mountains and wild bears. But there is also sadness in our lives right now... Without a chainsaw it is a very sweaty exercise to get over this first obstacle. But finally we are rewarded with the most beautiful spot in the Yukon. Long into the night we sit around the fire and let our thoughts wander. The next morning the sun rises beautiful and promises another hot summer day. In the meadow below our tents we can watch many bears grazing peacefully. We enjoy a day of sunbathing, and bear-spotting before we finally pack our things just to tackle an even bigger tree on our way out. And we share with you our sad news... Soon after settling down for the night we get a scary visit by a fearless bear in our camp... After parking our RV somewhere along the Top of the World Highway we go Wilderness Camping! we head out to another Wilderness Camping Trip. Bushwhacking and scrambling along up the slope we finally make it to the very top. The Top of the World... As soon as we find a secluded spot for the night we set up to build our camp and cook our far enough away to lure no hungry bear into our camp during the night... As the light comes back the next morning we wake to heavy rain and a lack of motivation... we cuddle for hours before finally heading back with empty stomachs.... But be warned that our trip is not very well planned and we end up in a pretty scary and difficult situation as night falls and we are still far from any designated camping spots... Soon the sun sets and it is dark all around us. We are totally exhausted and have no idea what to do next... Kluane National Park is home to the highest density of Grizzly bears in North America but moose and Dall Sheep also roam the hillsides in healthy numbers. The mountains are towering tall in the sky and we are reminded how tiny and small we are as we try to scramble up the rocky trail with tired feet... The place of the Klondike Gold rush, where roads and cabins are still haunted by the ghosts of the past. We enjoy our time in this amazing place and feel like being transformed into a John Wayne movie. Houses are crooked and roads are left unpaved. This place is mysterious and oh so fascinating all at once. A place that you have to visit in your life. Snow covers the trees and crunches under our feet as we step out to choose our Christmas Tree. We tie candles and fairy lights to the tree, decorate and cook a festive meal to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season on this day. After a short walk in the dark we bring Kato back inside to let him open his very first Christmas present. And boy is he excited. It is a lot of fun to see the joy he experiences. Kato is allowed to stay up late as we listen to Christmas music and dance around. Challenges of Cabin life in Winter Description: It is winter now and our survival depends on on a warm cabin in these cold temperatures. So the fire has to be fed day and night. It is beautiful out here with Northern lights in the sky and snow on the ground. But it is also exhausting. Join us for a night and a day at our little cabin in Northern Canada. With our small wood stove we have to do this every night when it is cold outside. During the cold nights the aurora borealis often dance the most powerful in the wintery sky... The next morning it is hard to leave the warm bed just to find out that the fire has dies in the stove. Peter has to chop up some more firewood while Sophie begins to prepare breakfast. but even our Blue Jug is empty and so things take a while longer. But finally all three of us sit down for a cozy and well deserved breakfast around the table... Even though you can tell that spring is in the air there is still a lot of snow on the ground. Once we come back from our beautiful hike through the wild Yukon we have to try to fix our Ford Ranger Pick Up Truck. We lost the key but need our pick up to get more firewood. Because it is still cold and there is not a single piece of wood left in our woodshed After fiddling unsuccessfully on the truck we cut our last pieces of firewood and call it a day... And in between there is still time to relax in the hammock. After playing in the water Sophie and Kato try out our vintage tricycle before doing a quick outdoor workout in our outdoor gym. But the season of the midnight sun is quickly coming to an end and the mornings are cold already. Once it even starts raining we just wait inside until finally the sun comes back and the warmth. Then it's time to tend to our little garden and play with Kato our little baby boy. With days getting colder we also have to repair our broken Greenhouse which got destroyed during a heavy storm. And of course we have to go to town for the laser therapy of our beloved doberman dog Mérida... The sun soon sets above the tree less mountain tops and we take a little longer to find a nice spot for the night. The landscape around us shows the first signs of fall. Leaves are beginning to turn colourful, blueberries are waiting to be picked and thick clouds are rolling in from beyond the horizon...
