New genres that came in to existence earlier in the decade were being creatively mixed with styles from beyond Europe. One such combination created the 80s Ska Revival (AKA The 2 Tone Ska Era). The 60s Ska rhythms from Jamaica and the free form boldness of Punk were blended together with a touch of British Mod style to create a perfect recipe that yielded both jubilation and rebellion. Later in the 80s, the Ska Revival made it's way to the West Coast of America and went through even more transformation. This would eventually lead to Ska's Third Wave. However, that is a story for another video. There was a time when the pinnacle of one's career was the release of a 'Greatest Hits' or 'Best Of' album. The artist would proudly showcase the most recognized songs. The record buyer would have the opportunity to recount the career of a cherished band or musician or in some cases be introduced to music that somehow went unnoticed to them previously. It could be that waxing nostalgia in this fashion is out of place in the fast paced world of streaming and social media of 2024. However you may have noticed, we beat to a different drum here at the Villa. We have been compared on many occasions to the listening experience of radio from the 1970s and 1980s.
