For the 2025 season, they’re giving the classic ride a major upgrade. Along with a few other improvements, the coaster will get brand new trains to make the ride even smoother. The new Millennium Flyer trains, from Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCII), are designed to offer a much better experience. Each train will have twelve 2-passenger cars, all mounted on a single axle. This new design helps the trains flow more smoothly along the track, cutting down on the "shuffling" riders might have felt with the old trains. It’s going to be an even more thrilling ride! The Wildwood Video Archive stopped by the coaster shop to tour these new trains and they look amazing! There are two trains named Mahone and Mary Lee, feature new lap bars which do not require seatbelts. These names are unique to the Wildwoods as these names are based off of Great White sharks that are tracked off the coast of New Jersey. During the summer there will be an event showcasing the new trains. Launched in 1952, this luxury liner broke transatlantic speed records, crossing from New York to England in just over three days. Designed by naval architect William Francis Gibbs, the ship was built to double as a troop carrier during wartime, though it never saw military service. After years of operation, it was retired in 1969 and has since faced decades of uncertainty regarding its future. In 2024, the ship's conservancy announced a tentative agreement to transfer the vessel to Florida's Okaloosa County, where it may become an artificial reef and diving attraction. While the plan promises a new purpose, it has stirred mixed emotions among preservationists who hoped to see the ship restored as a museum or hotel. Kennedy has embarked on its final voyage, departing Philadelphia on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at approximately 10 a.m., en route to Brownsville, Texas, where it will be dismantled. Following a weather-related delay, the iconic aircraft carrier departed from the U.S. Navy’s Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility in South Philadelphia. Along the way, onlookers can catch a glimpse of the vessel as it navigates the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean, according to the Navy. Commissioned on September 7, 1968, the USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) holds a special place in naval history as the first Navy ship named after President John F. Kennedy and the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier built for the fleet, Naval Sea Systems Public Affairs stated in a news release. Over nearly four decades of service, the USS John F. Kennedy completed 18 deployments in the Mediterranean and played a pivotal role in securing airspace over the mid-Atlantic following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In its later years, the ship was utilized for training purposes before officially being decommissioned on August 1, 2007.
