It has become repetitive and mundane. The quickest way to connect with them – BREAK PATTERNS in your communication. Every time you’re distracted or your mind wanders, your brain believes it has nothing NEW to focus on. Re-activate your senses by paying attention to small details in the room – the color of a pen, the sound of cars outside or the smell of coffee. This tells your brain to snap back into the CURRENT set of sensory stimuli and brings you back into the moment. ▶ Tip #2: YOUR PHYSICAL DISCOMFORT Every time your body experiences even the slightest bit of physical discomfort, your brain shifts its focus of attention. Whether you’re too cold sitting by the window or too stuffy in your new suit or simply need to go to the bathroom, each time your body feels uncomfortable, your brain wanders. Eliminate these physical discomforts before the meeting starts, so your mind is better prepared to pay attention without being distracted by your body. ▶ Tip #3: YOUR TOES This one’s definitely a genius secret I discovered! By wiggling or moving your toes, you activate the longest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve, snapping your brain OUT of distraction and making you FULLY grounded in the moment. ▶ Tip #4: YOUR BREATH This one shouldn’t be a surprise, but the key here is MINDFUL breathing: inhale for 2 seconds, hold for 2 seconds and exhale for 2 seconds. Well-intentioned interruptions: This is where someone who wants to support you or is excited about your idea interrupts you. Your best bet is to acknowledge their point and them continue speaking. You can tell a well-intentioned interruption form the tone of interrupter. ▶ 2. Focus-shifting interruptions: This is where the interrupter completely changes the topic. You know that if you let them have their way, you’re going to lose control of your message. Here, you will need to intervene and take back all the control of your message and address their comments later on. ▶ 3. Counterproductive interruptions: Have you been in a meeting where everyone just talks over each other and NO WORK is being done? Yep. Those interruptions can be massively counterproductive. If you already know that a few people tend to interrupt n your meetings, you need to set expectations early on. Establish that you plan to ▶ 4. Chronic interruptions: Yep, these interruptions are aggressive and borderline on bullying. If you find yourself being chronically interrupted, you will need to have a conversation. At first, initiative a group conversation where the whole team can discuss effective communication skills. What do they care about? ⇢ Are they attending by choice? ⇢ What do they already know? ⇢ What do they NEED to know? 💡 Helps you decide how to open a presentation, come up with opening hooks and introductions. 🔎 AUDIENCE MOTIVATION: ⇢ What are their challenges or frustrations? What is their ideal solution? 💡 Helps you decide which story, anecdote or example to use so your audience can better RELATE to it. Also helps you decide how to end your speech/presentation. 🔎 AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT: ⇢ Do they have any preconceptions or biases? ⇢ What would they disagree on? ⇢ What is their likely mood? 💡 Helps you decide your speaking tone, body language and any changes in your energy levels. In this video, I offer 4 ways to say ‘I don’t know’ when you don’t know the answer… all while sounding professional and competent. First, let’s address this question: Is it ever OK to say, ‘I don’t know’? YES. Your choice of words and the tone you use will make all the difference. ⇢ Let’s redefine the words ‘I don’t know’ to ‘I don’t have that information’. Once you change your perspective that saying ‘I don’t know’ is NOT a sign of weakness, we can move on to 4 ways to structure your answer. ⇢ In structuring your answers to tough questions, you have a simple goal: KEEP THE CONVERSATION MOVING. ▶ Here are 4 tactics to say ‘I don’t know’ with confidence: 1. FOLLOW UP: This is where you don’t know the answer, but you’ll know in the future. Make a promise to follow up. 2. REDIRECT: This is where you recommend someone else to answer the question 3. INFORMED GUESS: By using prompts such as, “based on what I know…” you make an informed guess about the answer, while adding value and offering relevant information 4. REFRAME QUESTION: When you’re asked open-ended, abstract question, instead of saying, “I don’t know,” simply reframe the question so as to make it more coherent. Use the prompt, “If I understand correctly, you’d like to know…” followed by your reframed question. Description: Let’s talk about how to organize a presentation or speech. The presentation structure – the introduction, body and conclusion – forms the basis of an amazing presentation story. What makes the presentation most effective is when you’re able to keep your audience engaged, not just at the start, but throughout the whole presentation until the very end… just like a Hollywood movie! 🎬 Ever wondered how you can sit through HOURS of a great movie, but simply cannot handle the torture of a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation? 🙄 That’s because movies use a specific structure that hooks us, the audience, from the very beginning. The phones come out in, like, 2 minutes. In this video, I share 4 amazing techniques used by Hollywood storytellers to keep the audience hooked.
